Local Gangs

Gangs in Chicago and surrounding areas including Elgin belongs to two alliances, "People" or "Folks." Both alliances were established in the the early 1980's in the penitentiary system by incarcerated gang members seeking protection by forming coalitions. As other gangs bloom or move to the Chicago and Suburbs area they are motivated to join one of the alliances.

The "People" gangs which represents with the five point star and the left side are commonly rivals to the "Folks" gangs which represents with the six point star and the right side.
