Youth Prevention & Intervention Programs

ERC/God's Gym has a number of programs designed for prevention and intervention of gang activity.

Summer Camp

This educational environment is an 8 week (two sessions) summer program offered to kindergarten though 6th grade students. This structured program provides five days a week with 6 hours of theme base structured activates. Students in the program will focus on the opportunity for experiential education, such as math, reading, writing, computers and much more. Recreation is an opportunity to develop the skills that they learned during the school year based on the current summer theme. Other educational environment we incorporate are the arts and life skills. We provide enriched activities that may include swimming and going to the movies, as well as other themed field trips. We use the Character Counts education program in our daily routines.Past summer themes have included “Pioneers”, “The Amazing Rainforest”, and “To infinity & beyond.

After-School Programs:

This program is geared for the students during the school months of September - May. We provide a safe haven and promote the development of social skills that help with self-esteem and self-respect and additional learning opportunities. Our goals are to involve children in enriched educational activities that have the potential to improve in school-related educational performance and behavior, to encourage student achievement through homework, tutoring, supervised constructive activities, and access to Internet computer technology lab.

Campus Life:

Campos Life is a place for high school students to have fun, make friends and talk about matters to other high school students. Come see what it is all about.

Elgin Pumas Soccer Club:

The Elgin Pumas Soccer Club engages more than 400 children of all ages. through organized league play, children are given a positive outlet for their energy and a safe place to play soccer. The club has both recreational and competitive teams and organizes two sessions of a recreational indoor soccer league during the winter. Team and league sponsorships are available. Club FRIEND (Friendly Relationships In Each New Day):

Club FRIEND is a cross-age mentoring program that allows middle and high school students the opportunity to learn with an elementary school student. Middle and high school students attend intensive training and commit to mentoring for an entire session of the after-school program and spend time with their friend at least once a week.

Suspended Student Program:

The Suspended School Program is geared towards youth who have been suspended for gang activity. violent offenses or drug related offenses. Students attend the program during their entire suspension, during school days and hours. Participants are taught life skills and anger management , complete homework and receive additional tutoring if necessary, develop individual strategies to decrease disruptive behavior. set goals for future endeavors and perform community service. In addition, every participant writes and sends a letter of apology to their school, family and others who have been hurt because of their behavior.

Boxing:

Since 1994, the Elgin Recreation Center Boxing Program has helped a number of young people reach their goals and become winners! This program meets four times per week. Boxing is an overall healthy physical activity that encourages total fitness. A great way to loose weight and gain endurance.

Fitness:

The original thrust of the gym. Come get into shape in our fitness area with our top of the line cardio an and fitness machines that are just ready to help you achieve your desired results.

Indoor Soccer:

Our indoor soccer field is available for rentals or for nightly pick-up games. Soccer is an effective aerobic workout.

Recreational Area:

Come in to relax, shoot a game of pool or play video games. There is always something fun to do at the Elgin Recreation Center.

G.E.D.:

In partnership with the Elgin Community College, GED classes are held regularly in Spanish. Attaining a certificate is the first step for many people to begin successful careers and to reinforce the importance of lifelong learning.
